The partnership of hospitals, physicians and clinics plans to establish a residency program in San Gabriel Valley, an initiative that failed in the past because of a physician surplus.
Plans to address the shortage will also focus on producing more diverse physicians. According to a study by the UCSF Health Workforce Center, ethnic physicians are more likely to work in underserved areas than their white counterparts and are also more likely to work in primary care.
