Earlier this year, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the AOA and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine agreed to a single accreditation system with the goal of implementing the program by 2020. The system will allow graduates allopathic and osteopathic medical schools to complete their residencies in ACGME-accredited programs.
The vote occurred during the annual meeting of the AOA House of Delegates in Chicago. The House of Delegates is comprised of more than 500 delegates representing osteopathic state medical associations, specialty societies, interns, residents and students.
