If MIPS clinicians fail to meet the March reporting deadline, they will face an automatic 4 percent reduction to payments under the physician fee schedule in 2019.
However, clinicians practicing in areas affected by the 2017 hurricane season or the Northern California wildfires are granted a special exception from the QPP’s MIPS requirements for 2017.
The 2018 QPP performance period begins Jan. 1, affecting 2020’s physician fee schedule.
