The report, released August, found the number of MD and DO physicians active in eight specialties in May, with a ninth category for all other specialties.
It found there are a total of 562,705 physicians in all specialties. Of those, 217,911 practice in allergy and immunology, dermatology, medical genetics, neurological surgery, neurology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, pathology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, plastic surgery, preventive medicine, urology, and combined residency training specialties, among others.
