Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and Iowa HHS secured approximately $49.5 million in federal funding to expand physician residency training programs across all of the state’s 13 teaching hospitals.
The expansion was approved by CMS on June 5 to support the state’s Medicaid Graduate Medical Education supplemental payment program, according to a June 18 governor’s news release.
The funds are expected to support more than 128 physicians in training across the state. Iowa City-based University of Iowa Health Care said it will train 76 of those physicians — about two-thirds of the total.
