“This first critical access hospital accreditation is a significant moment for AAHHS and for the future of critical access hospitals,” Meg Gravesmill, vice president and general manager of hospital operations for AAHHS, said in a statement. “AAHHS provides critical access hospitals with an accreditation option that has tailored Standards designed specifically for smaller facilities. We have developed our standards collaboratively with the challenges of critical access hospitals in mind.”
AAHHS surveyors conducted extensive pilot surveys and established a review process to help smaller hospitals meet the best-practice standards to deliver optimal patient care and work toward accreditation. These guidelines are available in two publications, the AAHHS’ Accreditation Handbook for Critical Access Hospitals and its Accreditation Handbook for Hospitals and Health Systems. Both are available via aahhs.org.
