Each year, HIMSS North America presents the award to a clinician who embodies the spirit of Dr. Kate Granger, an U.K. physician “dedicated to raising awareness around compassion in healthcare.”

Ms. Murphy, who boasts a 30-year nursing career, serves as chief experience and innovation officer at the University of Chicago Medicine. She is responsible for designing programs focused on efficiency and patient-centered care.

“Susan Murphy embodies the true spirit of compassionate care, with her steadfast focus on the patient,” said Carla Smith, executive vice president of HIMSS North America. “She recognizes as well that all staff members are caregivers, and they too must be taken care so they can take care of others.”
