Application deadlines for the initiative have been pushed back to 5:00 p.m. EST on Sept. 24. CMS will hold a webinar on the opportunity on Aug. 28 at 3:00 p.m. EST.

HHS Sec. Kathleen Sebelius announced the opportunity in July. A total of $275 million is available in funding for the initiative, including $50 million for design and $225 million for testing selected state models.

As many as five states will be chosen for an initial round of testing and up to 25 states will be chosen for “model design awards,” according to HHS.

Projects selected for funding are expected to be announced in December.
