The federal regulations protecting hospital visitations for same-sex couples are now in effect, according to a National Gay and Lesbian Task Force news release.
The regulations apply to all hospital receiving Medicare and Medicaid funds. Hospitals may not place visitation restrictions due to sexual orientation and must inform patients of their rights to receive visitors as they choose, including spouses, domestic partners (including same-sex domestic partners), family members or friends.
