Previously, many health insurance companies had a lifetime limit on the amount of money it would spend on members’ coverage. People with serious illnesses thus risked reaching their lifetime limit and losing coverage for treatment.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act prohibits health insurers from imposing lifetime dollar limits.
