The new company will step away from the clinical-centered healthcare framework and focus on social issues that directly influence people’s health, according to a news release shared with Becker’s.
“AmeriHealth Caritas is remaking the clinical-first architecture of our current healthcare system, building a new model that places social and environmental factors at the foundation – where they belong,” said Paul Tufano, AmeriHealth Caritas chairman and CEO. “The creation of Social Determinants of Life, Inc. is a turning point as we partner with millions of Americans on their journey from wellness to resilience.”
Social Determinants of Life, Inc.’s first action is investing $29 million in Series B funding into California-based startup Wider Circle to support the creation of hyperlocal and peer-to-peer programs and networks.
The subsidiary’s leadership is still being established, the company said.
