While it is not yet a major trend, The New York Times reported one service that offers hair and makeup services on-the-go, called Stylebookings.com, has seen a 200 percent increase in hospital-based bookings in the last three months, with about five stylists per week tending the tresses of new mothers. Another app-based beauty service called Glamsquad said such services have increased 30 percent in the last six months.
Services run anywhere from $50 to $700, according to the report, and are generally low-key. One stylist told The New York Times he uses dry shampoo or a little spritzed-on water to do a make-shift blowout in the hospital room.
“I think someone realized, ‘Why should I not look good for that great picture that I’m going to show everybody, the first picture of my child?'” Joel Warren, an owner of the Warren-Tricomi salons, told The New York Times.
