Global Ebola pandemic unlikely, says catastrophe risk management firm

The current outbreak is now the largest outbreak of Ebola to date, however while cases will continue to develop, a global pandemic is unlikely, according to a blog post by RMS, a catastrophe risk management company.

The World Health Organization declared the Ebola epidemic in West Africa an international health emergency.

RMS experts analyzed the pathogen's virulence and transmissibility as well as the lack of access to medical treatment and infection-control measures in areas where Ebola is rampant and the non-availability of medical treatment. They concluded that the disease spread quickly through West Africa for the aforementioned reasons, it is unlikely to spread beyond the West Africa region.
