Franciscan Health nurse resuscitates man pulled from Lake Michigan

After a man was pulled from Lake Michigan Aug. 27, a nurse at Franciscan Health Michigan City (Ind.) resuscitated him, The News-Dispatch reports.

Jennifer Freese, RN, said the only reason she was at the beach that day was because she is injured and can't work.

Ms. Freese and her friend, who is a medical assistant, performed CPR on the 48-year-old man after he was pulled from the water by other beachgoers, a Michigan City Fire Department spokesperson said. The man was transferred to a South Bend, Ind., hospital in critical condition.

"I don't feel like a hero," Ms. Freese said. "I've been a nurse for 21 years. Doing CPR is like riding a bike. It's second nature."
