Jennifer Freese, RN, said the only reason she was at the beach that day was because she is injured and can’t work.
Ms. Freese and her friend, who is a medical assistant, performed CPR on the 48-year-old man after he was pulled from the water by other beachgoers, a Michigan City Fire Department spokesperson said. The man was transferred to a South Bend, Ind., hospital in critical condition.
“I don’t feel like a hero,” Ms. Freese said. “I’ve been a nurse for 21 years. Doing CPR is like riding a bike. It’s second nature.”
