Researchers scored nearly 200 patients on the Hopkins Frailty Test. Those who were intermediately frail or frail according to the test were twice as likely to suffer complications after surgery.

The authors of the study suggest that the use of objective data such as frailty scores for determining surgical eligibility is vital for responsible patient counseling.
