Flu remains above epidemic threshold

Even though the percentage of lab specimens testing positive for influenza continues to decline, flu activity remained elevated during the week ending March 11, according to the CDC’s most recent FluView.

For instance, the proportion of deaths attributed to pneumonia and influenza remained above the epidemic threshold level, and the proportion of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness remained above the national baseline.

Additionally, five flu-associated pediatric deaths were reported during the week ending March 11, bringing the total number of such deaths for the 2016-17 season to 53.
