The outbreak started among staff members at Britton/Deerfield Schools in Lenawee County before spreading to students. About 20 percent of the district’s student population has the flu, according to Superintendent Stacy Johnson.
“We had a number of staff mainly that were out,” Ms. Johnson told WWJ. “So we started with the flu going through the staff a few days ago, and it’s kind of just spread.”
The district plans to disinfect all school buildings before resuming classes Oct. 29.
“The health and well-being of our families is our top priority,”Ms. Johnson told WTOL 11. “We are putting a plan in place for extra disinfecting and sanitizing within the buildings throughout the weekend with our custodial staff.”
