For this study, researchers assessed 708 patients aged 75 and older who were admitted after a fall. They found patients who were male or  had atrial fibrillation, acute myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, intracranial hemorrhage, hospital-acquired pneumonia, trigger events, Clostridium difficile or intubation were at higher risk of mortality. In addition, 30-readmission occurred in 14 percent of the cases.
