For their study, researchers implemented an electronic credentialing system in 2009. A total 6,220 healthcare providers were credentialed from June-Oct. 2009 using this electronic system. Researchers compared efficiency rates over the 14 weeks pre-implementation to efficiency rates over the 14 weeks post-implementation.
Results from their analysis showed the percentage of credentialing files that passed quality reviews increased from 83 percent to 92 percent. In addition, the researchers found turnaround time for credentialing was reduced from 53 calendar days to 36 calendar days.
