The project included educating anesthesia providers on the World Health Organization’s My 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene approach and increasing access to hand hygiene products in the OR. Additionally, researchers conducted observations of OR hand hygiene in three phases: pre-implementation of the project, postimplementation and 60 days postimplementation.
Researchers found implementation of the project resulted in significant improvements in compliance for each of the five indications for hand hygiene as well as overall compliance.
Additionally, researchers observed a significant decrease in both glove use and use of the portable hand sanitizer device.
