ECRI Institute taps Dr. Marcus Schabacker as CEO: 4 notes

ECRI Institute named Marcus Schabacker, MD, PhD, president and CEO.

ECRI Institute, a nonprofit organization, focuses on evidence-based research on medical procedures, devices, drugs and processes.

Here are four notes:

1. Dr. Schabacker, an anesthesiologist and intensive care specialist, previously served as corporate vice president and chief scientific officer at Baxter.

2. He has more than 25 years of healthcare experience and more than 18 years of senior management roles in medical device and pharmaceutical industries.

3. He has served in healthcare organizations all over the world. He has worked as senior medical officer and head of the intensive care and anesthesia department at Mafikeng General Hospital in South Africa.

4. He will succeed Jeffrey C. Lerner, PhD, who is retiring at the end of 2017. Dr. Lerner will then serve as president emeritus.
