JAMA: Joint Commission Patient Safety Goals Should Be Part of Meaningful Use

Healthcare experts have suggested The Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goals for hospitals should be incorporated as criteria for meaningful use and electronic health record certification, according to commentary published in the Journal of the American Medical Association and reported in Healthcare IT News.

The commentary authors cited six specific NPSGs that can be incorporated into EHRs: patient identification, staff communication, safe use of medications, infection prevention, medication reconciliation and suicide risk.
