The CMS recently sent an e-mail to the hospitals asking those that want to participate to provide five medical records from their fourth-quarter 2009 discharges to analyze for the accuracy of their quality reporting. The new validation process will be implemented in August.

Each hospital’s data will remain confidential, but aggregate information on the validation process will be shared with the hospital industry in the fall, according to the report.
