Children’s Specialized Hospital improves patient satisfaction with IPC platform

From 2013 to the first quarter of 2015 at Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, N.J., patient satisfaction scores jumped from 69.8 to 78.6 percent after implementing an interactive patient care platform. The platform’s impact on the health system was recently examined in Pediatric Nursing.

Children’s Specialized Hospital, the largest pediatric rehabilitation hospital system in the U.S., partnered with the GetWellNetwork to enhance patient experience by delivering customized, condition-specific educational content and various entertainment options to patients through in-room televisions. The platform also includes staff profiles and hospital information.

Donna Provenzano, director of family-centered care at Children’s Specialized, said, “We’ve seen significant increases in satisfaction scores, and we believe that is due in part to the way we’ve pioneered and championed our interactive patient care platform.”

In addition to increased patient satisfaction scores, Children’s Specialized also experienced a rise in physician communication scores (66.7 percent to 85.7 percent) and the reports of family’s feeling well informed (67.7 percent to 81.5 percent).
