The woman is in her 30’s and had recently traveled to Colombia. She was never hospitalized and officials state she recovered on her own.

All of the Illinois Zika cases were contracted during travels to the Caribbean and South America. Two of the cases were in pregnant women. Due to its suspected link to the neurologically debilitating birth defect microcephaly, the CDC has advised pregnant women to consider postponing travel to regions with proliferation of the Zika virus. So far it appears the virus can be spread by mosquitoes, sexual transmission and blood contact.
