Three things to know:
1. The San Francisco-based startup Velano Vascular created the technology, which is a single-use blood-draw device called Pivo.
2. The device connects to an indwelling peripheral IV line, allowing clinicians to extract blood without using a needle.
3. Centura Health already offers the Pivo device at its hospitals in the Denver area. The health system will gradually introduce the device to its other hospitals as part of a yearlong rollout.
