The panel’s existing recommendation calls for preteen girls and boys to receive two doses of the vaccine, with women being eligible to receive catch-up vaccinations through age 26 and men through age 21.
The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices issued an updated recommendation this week, which endorses vaccination for males through age 26 and some adults ages 27-45. The new recommendation passed in a 10-4 vote.
Not all adults may need the vaccine, which aims to prevent cancer caused by HPV. The panel said physicians should participate in “shared clinical decision-making” with adult patients about whether they should get vaccinated, according to the Post.
