The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released its top gains for 2013 and goals for 2014. The agency’s healthcare-related accomplishments in 2013 include:

•    More than 12,000 healthcare facilities reduced infections with help from the National Healthcare Safety Network.

•    CDC released new resources to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by the year 2017.

The agency’s top priorities for 2014 include:

•    Promoting antimicrobial stewardship.

•    Reducing opioid deaths through improving the safety and effectiveness of pain treatment.
