Boston Children’s Hospital boasts strange collection of swallowed items

Kids have been swallowing strange objects and sticking things up their noses and in their ears for decades, as proven by a strange collection at Boston Children’s Hospital that dates back to the early 1900s.

STAT profiled the collection, which is a tribute to Charles F. Ferguson, MD, who worked at Children’s for 35 years to “preserve the pediatric airway,” according to the piece.

The collection features items dating back to 1918 and through the 1940s.

Various items include:

  • Chicken claw
  • Sardine can key
  • Doll’s hand
  • Doll’s eye
  • Political button supporting President Franklin D. Roosevelt
  • Bell
  • Cotton swabs
