The CDC is urging consumers to avoid Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal, linked to a Salmonella mbandaka outbreak across 33 states that has sickened at least 100 people.
The CDC is recommending consumers throw away the cereal "regardless of package size or best-by date," the agency wrote in an updated advisory.
Salmonella mbandaka bacteria were found in unopened Honey Smacks cereal in California and opened boxes from people who were sickened in Montana, New York and Utah, according to the CDC.
The CDC's warning bolsters the guidance linked to Kellogg's June 14 recall of the cereal.
Since then, there have been 27 more infections reported. No deaths have been reported, but 30 people have been hospitalized.
It is unclear how the contamination occurred. The CDC continues to investigate.
