American Association of Colleges of Nursing, AONE create advisory committee

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing and American Organization of Nurse Executives joined forces to execute a new national strategy focused on fostering collaboration between practice and academia. Per the strategy, the organizations have formed the AACN-AONE Advisory Committee.

The committee will focus its efforts on:

• Developing and implementing a campaign for nursing leaders from academia and practice to influence appropriate leaders to better address expected workforce shortages.
• Encouraging and facilitating academic and practice leaders to identify opportunities and challenges to forging effective partnerships.

The committee includes members from both organizations. These members represent leaders from nursing schools, including Glendale, Wis.-based Columbia College of Nursing and University of Cincinnati College of Nursing. It also includes leaders from healthcare institutions, such as Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Health System and Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare.

The committee's co-chairs are:

• Judy Beal, dean of Boston-based Simmons College's School of Nursing and Health Services
• Deborah Zimmermann, vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at Richmond-based Virginia Commonwealth University Health System
