7-state salmonella outbreak linked to eggs sends 10 to hospital, CDC says

Salmonella-infected eggs have sickened 38 people across seven states since June 17, according to NBC News.

Here are four things to know:

1. The illnesses first occurred between June 17 and Aug. 16. Ten people required hospitalizations. No deaths have been linked to the salmonella cases.

2. The CDC issued a food safety warning after an investigation traced the salmonella outbreak to eggs sold by Cullman, Ala.-based Gravel Ridge Farms. The company recalled the eggs Sept. 8.

3. The infected eggs were sold in retail stores and restaurants in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. The affected eggs contained "best if used by" dates of July 25 to Oct. 3. Salmonella cases were reported in Colorado, Iowa, Kentucky, Montana, Tennessee, Alabama and Ohio.

4. The CDC advises consumers to return or discard of any Gravel Ridge Farm eggs included in the recall, even if the eggs were consumed and no symptoms presented themselves.
