6 ways to combat anxiety as a new nurse

Nurses often experience anxiety in their first days on the job due to lack of experience and confidence, according to DailyNurse.

Six tips for alleviating anxiety:

1. Recognize your problem. Acknowledge that it is normal and common.

2. Find a mentor. Nurses with more experience understand what you are going through and are often happy to answer your questions.

3. Seek out a support group with which you can share your feelings. You can crowdsource solutions with other people going through the same issues.

4. Take care of yourself by eating well, getting enough sleep and relaxing when off the job. Breathing exercises can help. Since caffeine is a stimulant, it can lead to further anxiety and is best avoided until you start to feel calmer in your job.

5. Maintain a boundary between work and home. While at home, exercise, spend time with loved ones and forget about nursing.

6. Record your anxieties in a diary. Research shows that writing relieves stress.
