5 resources for Patient Safety Awareness Week

The National Patient Safety Foundation offers a variety of resources and checklists as part of Patient Safety Awareness Week, an annual education and awareness campaign for healthcare safety led by NPSF. It runs March 8-14.

This year’s theme is United in Safety, meaning everyone in the healthcare process, from patients to care providers to executives, has a role in delivering safe care.

Some of the available resources include:

  • The Patient Safety Awareness Week Implementation Checklist includes ideas of how to implement Patient Safety Awareness Week in the organization
  • Ask Me 3 is a patient education program designed to improve communication between healthcare providers and patients
  • Two free videos from NPSF provide tips for how patients can get engaged and stay safe during their care
  • Suggested social media messages can be used by healthcare organizations to spread the word about Patient Safety Awareness Week.
  • A patient and family engagement resource list, an engagement checklist and a toolkit for partnering patients and families for safe care can be found here
