1. CDC declares end to nationwide E. coli outbreak: 4 things to know
The CDC on June 28 confirmed an end to the nationwide E. coli outbreak linked to romaine lettuce. The outbreak sickened 210 people across 36 states. Ninety-six people were hospitalized, including 27 individuals who developed kidney failure. Five deaths were reported in Arkansas, California, Minnesota and New York.
2. CDC: 144 cases linked to Cyclospora outbreak involving Del Monte vegetables
Reports of parasitic infections from Cyclospora have been linked to Del Monte brand pre-cut fresh vegetables, despite the national company’s initial recall on June 8.
3. Kellogg recalls cereal due to 31-state Salmonella outbreak
Kellogg Co. on June 14 issued a recall of Kellogg’s Honey Smacks cereal due to reports of Salmonella contamination.
4. CDC warns providers of 6-state hepatitis A outbreak; 2.5K infections reported
The CDC is investigating hepatitis A outbreaks across six states among patients reporting drug use and/or homelessness and their contacts, the agency stated in a recent advisory.
5. Bloodstream infection outbreak in 4 states may be linked to heparin syringes
The CDC confirmed 14 cases of bloodstream infections in children across four U.S. states that may be connected to heparin and saline syringes distributed by medical technology company Becton Dickinson and Co.
