Staff members first detected scabies in a cancer patient admitted to the hospital’s critical care unit in early November, a spokesperson for Jupiter Medical Center told the publication.
Since then, 40 other providers have also been diagnosed and treated for scabies. The outbreak was contained to a single unit and did not affect any other patients.
“Our care providers have completed the recommended series of treatments, and the patient is no longer in our care,” the spokesperson said. “As an extra precaution, we are aggressively treating close contacts of our care providers and family members.”
