1st flu death reported in North Carolina

 The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the first flu-related death of the 2019-20 season Oct. 24.

The death occurred during the first week of October. Health officials did not disclose the patient’s age or gender, but said the case involved an adult who lived in the central part of the state.

The state reported 208 flu deaths during the 2018-19 flu season, down from the 391 confirmed a year prior.
