11 local health departments receive $25k each to improve infectious disease preparedness

The National Association of County and City Health Officials has given roughly $25,000 each to 11 local health departments across the country to help the organizations better prepare for infectious disease outbreaks.

With the NACCHO funding, and support from the CDC Lessons in Infection Control Initiative, the health departments will be able to test innovative new approaches to prepare and respond to cases of Ebola, healthcare-associated infections and other potential infectious disease outbreaks.

Listed below are the 11 health departments NACCHO chose to receive a grant, listed alphabetically

  • Barren River District Health Department (Ky.)
  • Clark County Public Health (Wash.)
  • Eau Claire City-County Health Department (Wis.)
  • El Paso County Public Health (Colo.)
  • Flathead City-County Health Department (Mont.)
  • Florida DOH Pasco County
  • Kent County Health Department (Mich.)
  • Marion County Public Health Department (Ind.)
  • Kanawha-Charleston Health Department (W.Va.)
  • Public Health-Seattle & King County (Wash.)
  • St. Louis City Department of Health (Mo.)

"Those of us in public health are learning hard lessons about preparation and response to HAIs and diseases, including Ebola and Zika: that concerted coordination, preparation and response are the keys to keeping our communities healthy," said LaMar Hasbrouck, MD, executive director of NACCHO. "The LINC awards will go a long way in giving these eleven local health departments the freedom and ability to create strategic partnerships that will outlast the life of the grant."
