10 states with the most ‘Straight A’ Leapfrog hospitals

Twice a year, The Leapfrog Group assigns grades to more than 2,500 U.S. hospitals based on their ability to prevent errors, injuries, accidents and infections. Since Leapfrog began assigning scores, 182 hospitals have received straight A’s.

“Straight A” hospitals have been graded by Leapfrog seven times — during the spring and fall of 2012, 2013 and 2014, and again in the spring of 2015 — and received an A grade each time. All total, 31 states have at least one “Straight A” hospital.

Listed below are the 10 states with the most “Straight A” hospitals.

1. California — 29 “straight A” hospitals

2. Massachusetts — 22 hospitals

3. Illinois — 19 hospitals

4. Florida — 16 hospitals

5. Virginia — 11 hospitals

6. New Jersey — 9 hospitals

7. Ohio — 9 hospitals

8. Michigan — 8 hospitals

9. Maine — 7 hospitals

10. Tennessee — 7 hospitals
