10 States With the Most Improved Readmission Rates

As hospitals across the nation work to reduce preventable readmissions, some states have experienced greater improvements than others. Here are the top 10 states with the most improved readmission rates for acute myocardial infarction.

Data comes from a Vree Health infographic, utilizing CMS data on readmissions rates for AMI for 2011 and 2012.

1. Hawaii — 16 percent readmission rate — down 16.9 percent

2. Arizona — 15.4 percent readmission rates — down 11.3 percent

3. Maryland — 19.7 percent — down 10.8 percent

4. Washington, D.C. — 20 percent — down 8.7 percent

5. New York — 20.9 percent — down 8.6 percent

6. Colorado — 12.4 percent — down 8.6 percent

7. Alaska — 11.7 percent — down 7.7 percent

8. Texas —16.7 percent — down 7 percent

9. Michigan —18.9 percent — down 5.7 percent

10. Florida —18.6 percent — down 5.1 percent
