According to the May 13 update from the Cambridge Public Health Department, there have now been 59 confirmed cases of the mumps among the Harvard community. There are currently 12 people in isolation.
Though there are no plans to cancel graduation ceremonies, Paul J. Barreira, MD, director of Harvard’s Health Services, has previously warned the campus community that “given the two- to three-week incubation period for the mumps virus, students who come down with the virus at this point may have to miss certain end-of-year and/or summer activities if they are ill,” according to The Harvard Crimson.
