New York has the lowest Parkinson’s disease death rate, at 6.1 deaths per 100,000 people, while Utah has the highest, at 13.2, the CDC found.
The CDC calculated mortality rates from Alzheimer’s disease in every state. Mortality rate is the number of deaths per 100,000 total population and is age-adjusted. The most recent data for 2024 was published March 6. Becker’s used the 2024 and 2023 data to find the percent change in death rate and total deaths.
Across all states, total deaths increased by 745 between 2023 and 2024. Tennessee had the largest decline in deaths at 57, while Virginia had the largest increase in deaths at 118.
Alaska had the largest drop in death rate, at 3.4 points, while Maine and South Dakota tied for the largest increases at 1.4 points each.
