Mechanicsburg, Pa.-based Select Medical Corp. and Roanoke, Va.-based Carilion Clinic are partnering to build and operate a 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Roanoke.

Construction will begin on Carilion Rehabilitation Hospital this spring, with an expected opening in 2028, according to a May 21 organization news release. Select Medical will be the majority owner and manager of the facility.

Upon the new facility’s opening, Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital will close its existing 34-bed acute rehab unit.

“As the need for inpatient rehabilitative care continues to grow, we are proud to partner with Carilion Clinic to support this expanding patient population across Virginia’s Blue Ridge,” Tom Mullin, chief executive officer of Select Medical, said in the release.
