Nursing homes in Ohio have yet to receive up to $1 billion in unpaid Medicaid funds, according to a Jan. 29 report from the Ohio Capital Journal.
In September, the Ohio Supreme Court found that the Ohio Department of Medicaid miscalculated payments and underpaid nursing homes by about $527 million in the 2024-25 budget.
The department told the Journal it is “working through logistics” and is “committed to following the law.”
Ohio Health Care Association CEO Scott Wiley told the Journal that nursing homes may be required to report the unpaid Medicaid dollars as taxable income, despite not yet receiving the funds. Ohio has about 926 Medicaid-certified nursing facilities that care for about 66,000 people, 65% of which Medicaid funds the care of, the Journal report said.
