The incident occurred at the Humboldt House Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in February 2018. CMS investigators found the nursing home gave a diabetic woman insulin, despite a hospital discharge summary explicitly warning the facility not to do so.
After the medication error, Humboldt House officials implemented training for nursing staff to better monitor diabetic residents and disciplined a nurse involved in the incident.
Humboldt House’s fine from CMS represents the largest nursing home fine in Buffalo and the sixth largest in New York for 2018.
