The Leapfrog Group and the American College of Surgeons have established a new designation for hospitals that provide high-quality surgical care for older adults.

The Recognized Leader in Geriatric Surgery designation is based on performance in the American College of Surgeons’ Geriatric Surgery Verification program, and Leapfrog’s Hospital Survey and Hospital Safety Grades, according to a July 15 news release.

Hospitals that participate in the ACS Geriatric Surgery Verification program, earn an A or B Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade and demonstrate strong performance in the Leapfrog Hospital Survey will be eligible to receive the designation beginning in 2027.
