The largest healthcare workers union in Connecticut has issued a petition drive among its members to decide whether to call a formal strike for the more than 6,000 nursing home employees working under expired contracts.

The drive serves as a strike warning for state lawmakers amid wage and benefit negotiations, according to a March 31 CT Mirror report.

While SEIU District 1199 New England President Rob Baril did not specify what level of wages are being sought, he said the union is trying to make progress before the legislative session ends June 4, the report said.
