Chicago nursing home staff refuse to work after payment issues

Staff members at a Chicago nursing home are refusing to work after Aliya Healthcare failed to pay them, ABC affiliate WLS reported July 5.

Aliya Healthcare took over Ryze West in June. Nurses said since then, they have had ongoing issues getting paid. They told the news outlet that they were not paid the last pay period and, in the most recent one, the company paid them then took the money back, citing a clerical error. The nurses also said the company promised to pay them July 5, but they had not yet received any money.

The nurses are refusing to work until the issue is resolved.

Skokie, Ill.-based Aliya Healthcare did not respond to WLS' request for comment. The Illinois Department of Health said it had not received reports of staffing issues but is now investigating.
