CareTrust, Ventas and NHC Q2 earnings: 3 notes

Three major companies in the nursing home and assisted living space released second-quarter earnings reports recently.

  1. Murfreesboro, Tenn.-based National HealthCare Corp. reported a 4.1 percent year-over-year increase in net operating revenues and grant income. The net operating revenues increased 11.5 percent during the second quarter compared to the same period last year. It also had a net income of $16.3 million.

  1. San Clemente, Calif.-based CareTrust, a real estate investment trust, reported a net loss of $500,000. Its rental income was $47.7 million in the second quarter and it invested almost $200 million in eight transactions with six operators, resulting in $1.1 million in income from new investments.

  1. The net income of Chicago-based Ventas' senior living communities operating portfolio income grew by 14 percent in the second quarter. Its living communities grew 18.5 percent year over year and assisted living saw 32.2 percent growth year over year.
