The shooting occurred at Oakland, Calif.-based Lake Merritt Healthcare Center, a 53-bed facility. Police reports said two men entered the building around 1 a.m. and shot Paris Moffet multiple times in his bed. Mr. Moffet was already partially paralyzed from a shooting in September. He was pronounced dead at the scene and the suspects fled before police arrived, according to the report. No other staff or patients were injured.

In a statement to Fox affiliate KTVU, the facility said in part that it is “conducting our own internal investigation into the incident. Our sympathies are with the family at this difficult time.”
